whole of the Northern Lakes is easily accesible from Barn House Cottage, the
major peaks of the Lake District can be visited easily within the the day,
Skiddaw, Helvellyn and England's highest peak, Scafell Pike are all close
at hand. Close to the property is Bassenthwaite Lake where you can enjoy fishing
and sailing.
The Lake Districts Ospreys also nest and fish in the Bassenthwaite area,
the Osprey view point is about four miles away.
Keswick the main tourist attraction in the Lake District is two miles away, a picturesque market town located on the shores of Derwentwater. Keswick has attractions to cater for all tastes, numerous shops, pubs, restaurants. There is also a leisure pool, cinema, and the famous Theatre by the Lake which is open all year round.
Braithwaite has two village pubs serving good bar food and local ales, The Royal Oak and The Coledale Inn, The Middle Ruddings and Ivy House Hotels also have restaurants with interesting menus.
Driving over Whinlatter Pass takes you to Lorton Valley, a stunning area which leads you to Crummock Water, Loweswater and Buttermere (and even the West Coast of Cumbria). From Buttermere you can head either over Newlands Pass into Newlands valley or Honister Pass into Borrowdale valley, both which have tremendous views.
